Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for RFID Site Surveys
A structured site survey eliminates 95% of post-deployment failures by verifying ambient noise floor levels, physical dock clearances, and tag substrate compatibility prior to hardware procurement.
1. The 4 Mandatory Phases of an RFID Field Survey
Measure ambient RF power across 865.0–867.0 MHz. Baseline noise floor must be below -95 dBm. Any persistent carrier peaks above -80 dBm indicate interfering radios requiring channel filtering.
Verify dock door dimensions, bollard mounting clearances, forklift mast heights, and ensure minimum 1.5-meter standoff from moving steel roll-up door tracks.
Test sample tags on actual inventory cartons under live loading conditions (dry cardboard, shrink wrap, metallic foil bags, and liquid containers).
Confirm Cat6 PoE+ (802.3at) run distances to IDF switch racks (<90 meters) and identify conduit routes protected from industrial machinery vibration.
