Description

The HF Desktop RFID Reader & Writer and USB Smart Card Scanner (Model: PRD_HW_HF_DESKTOP) is a plug-and-play 13.56 MHz High-Frequency contactless desktop reader and programmer engineered for corporate employee card issuance, university student ID registration, hotel keycard encoding, hospital patient check-in, and cashless cafeteria point-of-sale stations. Designed with a sleek, low-profile desktop footprint, it features USB HID keyboard-wedge plug-and-play operation and high-speed Virtual COM port SDK control.

1. Dual ISO 14443A & ISO 15693 Multi-Protocol Support

Operating at 13.56 MHz HF, the reader supports both proximity smart cards (ISO/IEC 14443 Type A/B, NXP MIFARE Classic 1K/4K, MIFARE Ultralight, NTAG213/215/216, and Fudan F08) and vicinity tags (ISO/IEC 15693, NXP ICODE SLIX, and TI Tag-it). It provides a reliable contactless read range of 3.0 to 8.0 cm with sub-50ms transaction latency.

2. Multi-Mode Operation & Cross-Platform Software Support

The reader features selectable dual operating modes: USB HID Keyboard Emulation Mode (instantly outputs card UID numbers into Excel, Word, or web browsers without installing drivers) and PC/SC / Virtual COM SDK Mode (enables full sector key authentication and block read/write operations for software developers in C#, Java, Python, and web browsers via WebUSB).

Questions

Does this USB desktop reader require driver installation to output card numbers?
No. In USB HID Keyboard Wedge mode, the reader is 100% plug-and-play. When a card is tapped, the reader types the card's UID number directly into whatever software is open (Excel, ERP, or web browser) followed by an Enter key.
Can this reader write data and change security keys on MIFARE and NTAG chips?
Yes. In Virtual COM / PC/SC mode, software developers can write NDEF URLs onto NTAG213/215 chips, update cashless balances on MIFARE Classic cards, and configure sector Key A/Key B passwords using our free SDK.
Is this reader compatible with Koha Library Management Systems?
Yes. Supporting ISO 15693 ICODE SLIX tags, it functions as a desktop circulation pad in Koha for book check-in, checkout, and tag programming via USB keyboard-wedge or SIP2 client.
What is the HSN Code and GST tax rate for USB RFID readers in India?
USB card readers are classified under HSN Code 84719000 with an 18% GST rate. RFID Softwares provides full GST tax invoices and developer SDKs across India.
Can it read contactless smart cards through thin plastic or leather wallets?
Yes. The reader features a strong 13.56 MHz electromagnetic field that easily reads smart cards through standard phone cases, plastic badge holders, and leather wallets from 3 to 8 cm away.
